Summary: The help2read program works in public primary schools and provides volunteer-based, one-on-one tutoring to students in Grades 2-4 who are struggling with literacy. The program also recruits and trains literate and unemployed adults to become reading tutors in the English language. --- Based on an established UK child literacy charity, the help2read program has been adapted to meet the needs of South African society. Description of Scale and Reach
Using a largely volunteer workforce, the help2read program currently operates in disadvantaged communities throughout the Western Cape and in parts of Gauteng. Recently, help2read partnered with the Michelle Mclean Trust to develop literacy tutoring in Namibia.
