GPOBA Education Program
Summary: The GPOBA Education Program improves educational opportunities for 8,040 underprivileged and disadvantaged secondary school students in Vietnam by reducing the cost of public and private secondary education through tuition subsidies tied to student attendance, behavior, and academic performance. --- EMW’s GPOBA Education Program is funded by the Global Partnership on Output-Based Aid (GPOBA) and is administered by the World Bank. It is the first program to use an output-based aid approach in education in Vietnam. Selected schools are incentivized to actively reach out to disadvantaged students through receiving tuition subsidies from EMW GPOBA. Description of Scale and Reach
The EMW GPOBA program was provided with $3 million to implement this program over 3 years. The program aimed to enroll 7,562 over three years. For the upcoming year, the program has 8,200 students enrolled. The OBA approach has been applied to other EMW education initiatives, in particular its SPELL program, which has also been replicated in India (The Scholarship Program to Enhance Literacy and Learning).
