Description of Scale and Reach
Since its founding in 2012, the center's enrollment has grown from 3 students in April 2012 to 7 students in 2013. The center initially ran four days a week from 9:00-12:30, but has since increased the length of the school day to 8:30-12:30. The center has introduced outings as a teaching tool and adapted various learning activities from mainstream schools to suit the barriers to learning present in this unique classroom. A librarian now also visits the students on a regular basis. The Ambassadors Programme has grown from 1 trainer and 10 students in Cape Town in 2009, to 7 trainers and 111 students in Cape Town, Kimberley, and Bloemfontein in 2013.
