Summary: The goal of this program is to establish good governance and management principles to ultimately form the foundation for the long-term success of schools. The aim is to restore the culture of teaching and learning in schools, while simultaneously developing functional and sustainable relationships among key stakeholders within school communities. --- The Beyers Naude School Development (BNSD) program seeks to strengthen the quality of schools in rural communities, through harnessing good governance and management principles. Description of Scale and Reach
Initially the program only focused on high schools, but has since been adjusted to include primary schools. The implementers have recognized the importance of insisting on government buy-in before the implementation of new projects commences. In partnership with Shanduka Foundation, need-assessments are conducted in all schools to clarify budget and scope. An added component is addressing social barriers to learning. The implementers are also identify interested and promising district individuals for new training.
