Summary: This program provides professional development courses for mathematics teachers, subject advisers, and field trainers in South Africa, introducing new mathematics teaching skills, improving subject knowledge, and extending educational opportunities for teachers in rural areas. --- The African Institute for Mathematical Sciences Schools Enrichment program offers three-pronged professional development courses for primary and secondary teachers, subject advisers, and field trainers from all over South Africa. Description of Scale and Reach
The first Mathematical Thinking Course in 2003 served 30 teachers and has increased in size to serve 131 teachers in 2012. On 10 May 2013, the first group of thirty-one ACE students graduated through the University of Fort Hare. The program has been expanded, in partnership with Stellenbosch and Fort Hare universities, to reach all the provinces in South Africa.
