Chalk House Play & Learn Centers (CHPLC) cater primarily to the education needs of disadvantaged children who have not only missed out on the benefits of early childhood learning, but are presently without access to quality education. CHPLC was established by Mrs. Yetunde Abe, a visionary who has built over 25 years of career experience in child education. Target beneficiaries of CHPLC include children of beggars/of the poor, orphans, illiterates, child workers, and the disabled. The Chalk House child ranges in age from 18 months to 12 years. In addition, CHPLC caters for slower learners within the public school system including those with learning difficulties whom as a result of inadequate support, can often end up at the bottom of the class. The 2-year old program is operated on a "not-for-profit" basis (no tuition fees) and is sustained with donations and grants from individuals and organizations.
The mission of CHPLC is to provide high-quality early care and education support to underprivileged children with little to no opportunity of obtaining quality early childhood education. The objective at CHPLC is to provide a safe nurturing environment where children can develop lifelong learning skills through play. Participation in CHPLC program offers significant benefits to both children and their families. To achieve the mission of the organization there are several services and support available at the CHPLC which seek to guarantee the following outcomes. Outcomes for children include the opportunity and the ability to learn; the opportunity to build, create, and sustain positive social relationships; better awareness of their capabilities; and acquisition and development of the requisite literacy and numeracy skills. Outcomes for families include a better understanding of children’s strengths, abilities, and special needs; families become better equipped to help their children develop and learn; and finally, an external support system through CHPLC is developed.
Currently, CHPLC has two sites. The facilities provide access to counseling, after-school tutoring, and recreational programs at a four-room structure in the Mushin/OdiOlowo LCDA of Lagos State. The second site is in Shagamu city in Ogun State. The facility provides an environment and infrastructure for child development and self-actualization. There is an ever-increasing demand for CHPLC’s services and as a result an expansion is underway. The learning center will be providing six desktop computers/laptops; bookshelves for the library; textbooks and learning aids, games equipment/toys for activity center, television/dvd-player, four ceiling fans, water dispenser, generator, and a school mini-van.
CHPLC targets under-privileged children by catering to their education needs, rights, and entitlements where there are financial, parental support, and public school system special needs provisioning gaps.

Visits to very poor families, organizing family support programs, and utilizing teaching aids.
The program started in 2011 with just 3 students and now it has expanded to 23 students. Chalk House Play & Learning Center (CPLC) now currently operates out of two cities Lagos and Shagamu.
Plans for future growth are centered on opening one more learning center in Lagos and upgrading the current facilities being utilized. Growth goals and objectives also include increasing the learning center's student enrollment. Given the increasing demand for CHPLC’s services, facility expansion is underway. The learning center will be providing six desktop computers/laptops; bookshelves for the library; textbooks and learning aids, games equipment/toys for activity center, television/DVD-player, four ceiling fans, water dispenser, generator, and a school mini-van.
Monitoring & Evaluation
Teachers write periodic reports on the students' performance based on a set of indices. Secondly, teachers carry out end-of-term visits designed to observe changes in the children’s home environment such as the impact of CHPLC’s services on the family and what the new exposure of children to early education and enrollment in CHPLC is having on the personal lives of the children.
